Current status, expected status and learning management needs of small schools under Nakhon Si Thammarat Primary Educational Service Area Office 3

This research aimed to investigate: (1) the current conditions, (2) the expected conditions, and (3) the priority needs for learning management in small-sized schools under the Nakhon Si Thammarat Primary Educational Service Area Office 3. A multi-phase mixed-method research design was employed. The population consisted of 139 schools under the aforementioned educational service area. The sample comprised 103 schools, selected through simple random sampling based on the Krejcie and Morgan (1970) table. Two informants from each school participated in the quantitative phase, including the school principal and the teacher responsible for academic affairs, totaling 206 respondents. For the qualitative phase, 15 key informants were selected using purposive sampling.
The research instruments included questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using mean and standard deviation, while qualitative data were analyzed through content analysis.
The findings revealed that: (1) the current condition of learning management was at a moderate level overall; (2) the expected condition of learning management was at the highest level overall; and (3) the overall priority needs index (PNI) indicated that curriculum management had the highest level of need (PNI = 0.942), followed by instructional media utilization (PNI = 0.887), while instructional management showed the lowest level of need (PNI = 0.854).
