The role of monks with the conservation of local arts and culture Wat Phra That Rongrong, Muang District, Sisaket Province

Abstract

         This research article aims 1) to study the background of conservation the local arts and culture, Wat Phra That Rungrueng, Mueang district, Srisaket province; 2) to study the state of conservation of local arts and culture in the past and present of Wat Phra That Rongrong; 3) to study the problems, troubles and promoting the role of monks in the conservation of the local arts and culture at Wat Phra That Rungrueng by the using qualitative research methodology and field interviews. The data were collected from the interviews of 15 key informants. The research found that 1) the museum of Wat Phra That Rungrueng was established by Phra Khru Wibul Thammapan, he agreed that the globalization came quietly, it has destroyed the local lifestyle and culture. Therefore, he has built the Phra That Rungrueng Museum as a source of learning lifestyle, history for preserving the local art and culture of the four tribes in Srisaket province; 2) the state of conservation of local art and culture in the past and present, the character of centralization was the center by Phra Khru Wibul Thammapan, who plays an important role in the management and decision making; 3) the problems and obstacles to the role of monks in the promotion of the cultural heritage of Wat Phra That Rongrong, supposing; preserving care,  publicity and restoration,  personnel, management, so  the state of promoting the role of monks in conservation of local arts and culture in the past and present of Wat Phra That Rongrong, there are 6 aspects; (1) the  role in leadership and role models in preservation (2) the role in promoting of cooperative (3) the role of the supporting, management (4) the role in dissemination and rehabilitation (5) the role as local professor of educators (6) to build a network of folk museums.
