A Study of Belief in Kamma in Theravāda Buddhism of people in Muangprai sub-district, Selaphum district, Roi-Et province

Abstract

         The article aims 1) to study the concept and belief of Kamma in Theravāda Buddhism; 2) to study the concept and belief of Kamma of people in Muangprai sub-district, Selaphum district, Roi-Et province; 3) to study the influence of belief in Kamma of people in Muangprai sub-district, Selaphum district, Roi-Et province. It was found that the concept and belief of Kamma in Theravāda Buddhism can be divided into 2 levels: 1) Samsaravata level, 2) Moral and Ethical level that related to the faith (saddha 4). However, for the concept belief of Kamma of people in Muangprai sub-district Selaphum district Roi-Et province, there are 3 concepts: 1) the guideline to explain the variety of social mankind, 2) the guideline in explaining the promotion of social levels, 3) the guideline to connect the other principle of Buddha-Dhamma in Buddhism. Furthermore, the belief of Kamma of people in Muangprai sub-district Selaphum district Roi-Et province, there are 4 aspects: 1) the belief of former life and previous existence as it functions like transportation linking to kamma, 2) the belief of collection, 3) the belief of indemnity by making the merit, 4) the belief in holy place of kamma.
