Abstract

This academic article aims to analyze the Art of Victory: Decoding Sun Tzu's Art of War for Life and Work in the 21st Century. It was found that Sun Tzu once presented a method for effective executives or leaders in ancient times, who had to know how to be "adaptive" and "flexible," not adhering to old rules. They had to rely on their instincts and flexibility to adapt to unexpected situations. By analyzing five key factors—Moral Law, Heaven, Earth, The Commander, and Method and Discipline—one can effectively apply these to assess a situation and gain a competitive advantage. For example, the start of strategic planning in life is to set clear goals: "What do we want in life?" and "How will we get to that goal?" Having a clear goal helps us make decisions more easily and not get lost. Sun Tzu often used the principle of "Know the enemy, know yourself" to understand his interlocutors. Understanding the mind of the "enemy" or "opponent" is a way of assessing the situation and finding a solution together, which requires subtle communication skills. What must be understood is that "pacifism" is not a weakness but a superior strategy to using force, and negotiation is the most powerful tool for resolving conflicts. This is the key to building understanding and reducing conflicts in both the business world and modern work. The principles of Sun Tzu are therefore not just about a war that requires bloodshed, but about using wisdom and communication skills to effectively and sustainably achieve our goals.
