Guidelines for developing Thai teachers to become volunteer teachers

Abstract

           Developing Thai teachers to be volunteer teachers is an important approach to strengthen the education system with morality and social consciousness. This article aims to study the principles, concepts and approaches to develop Thai teachers to have volunteerism by using the analysis of approaches from related research as well as the frameworks of ethics and social sciences. The results of the study indicate that the important approaches to develop teachers to have volunteerism consist of 6 aspects: (1) instilling consciousness and values ​​through training activities and being a good role model; (2) organizing training and development by organizing training courses on volunteerism and social work; (3) promoting volunteer activities by supporting teachers to take a leading role in helping society; (4) integrating the concept of volunteerism into the curriculum and teaching so that teachers can instill morality in students; (5) creating motivation and giving recognition through a system of awards and honors; and (6) creating a volunteer network to create sustainable cooperation among teachers, students and communities. Implementing these approaches will enable teachers to be good role models in developing students to become moral citizens who are ready to contribute to society.
