Administrative Challenges of Small-Sized Schools in Thailand

Abstract

Small schools in Thailand play a vital role in expanding educational opportunities for children and youth in remote areas. However, they face a wide range of challenges that affect both management efficiency and the quality of education. These issues include a shortage of teachers and educational personnel, excessive administrative workload for school leaders, inadequate resources and infrastructure, limited budgets, and the threat of school closure or consolidation. Such problems hinder the effectiveness of teaching and learning, significantly impacting students' academic achievement. This article aims to analyze the problems and factors related to the administration of small schools in Thailand and proposes multi-dimensional solutions. These include appropriate personnel allocation, the use of technology to support teaching and learning, the establishment of school collaboration networks, increased budgetary support, and the strengthening of partnerships with local communities. Furthermore, it suggests the application of Buddhist principles such as the Four Paths of Accomplishment (Iddhipada 4) and the Four Divine States (Brahmavihara 4) as moral and compassionate approaches to enhance ethical and effective school management. These strategies are intended to enable small schools to operate efficiently and sustainably, aligning with the goals of providing quality and equitable education for all learners.
