Speech Acts of Love Counseling in “Phut Talk Phut Toll” Talk Show

Abstract

The purpose of this article was to analyze the types of love counseling speech acts in Phut Talk Phut Toll Talk Show. The research data was the top 10 most viewed YouTube clips application in 2018, used John R. Searle’s theory of speech pragmatics and assortment of speech acts. The findings of study showed that the types of love counseling speech acts could be divided into 6 types of speech acts; advising, warning, commenting, blaming, complementing and comforting. The most used speech act was “advising”, followed by warning, blaming, commenting. That such problems should be corrected properly and appropriately, therefore use the form of caution for the consultant to review thought about what he was doing. For commenting speech act, the counselor must not express any opinion in any way so that the counselor can understand the problem and gain new perspectives from the mentor. Blaming speech act, the counselor doesn’t understand the problem causing controversy so the counselor uses this speech act to the consultant to think about the problem. Complementing speech act often used for situations when the consultant have a positive perspective and attitude towards the problem. The least used speech act was comforting. There are complex situations in which the context of the problem is used, therefore, words that show the intention of consoling the consultant are used to encourage and struggle with love problems.
