Abstract

This research article aims to study the physical liberties of women under a patriarchal system appear in the autobiographical novel Kim Ji Young born 82, written by South Korean female author Cho Nam Joo. The study found that the literature presents the influence of the patriarchal system in controlling women's rights and liberties in three areas: 1. Women and their physical physique. Women are valued through physical fitness by creating the myth that women are weak because they are not as physically strong as men, making them unable to participate in certain activities. 2. Women with beauty and dress reflects the value of women from external factors and creates a conceptual framework for women to always develop their beauty. In addition, women also have to dress more closely to reduce sexual harassment. It becomes the burden of women's responsibility. 3. Women and their bodies and pregnancy. It reflects the expectations of society when married women have to conceive a son. Even though it hurts both mentally and physically. However, the literature points out that Women are not surrendering but are trying to fight for their physical rights and social liberties. By exposing, criticizing, questioning and countering the patriarchal system that controls their thoughts and expressions.
