Chinese Translation Strategies of Architecture, Sculpture and Antique Terminology of Sukhothai Historical Park

Abstract
The article’s objective is to study the strategies used in translating architecture, sculpture, and antique terminology in the information of Sukhothai Historical Park in Sukhothai province into Chinese. Among the 58 words found, the author, thereafter, analyzes the translation of these terms through Mona Baker’s (1992) “Non-equivalence at Word Level Translation” theory and Yang’s (2007) translation frameworks. The result of the study reveals that there are three strategies used in translating these terms, including Literal translation, Transliteration combined with literal translation, and Translation by a more general word. Generally, the translators have used suitable translation strategies that transmits clear meaning of the terms or give the meaning close to the source language. However, some translated items do not convey complete meanings from the original.
