Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aims to explore the identity and the presentation of cultural identity of the Tai Saek people in Ban At Samart Community, At Samart Subdistrict, Mueang District, Nakhon Phanom Province. This study employs a qualitative research approach with a descriptive analytical method. Data were collected between 2021 and 2022 through documentary study, in-depth interviews, and both participant and non-participant observations. A purposive sampling method was used to select a total of 20 key informants. The gathered data were analyzed using content analysis and contextual interpretation.
The findings revealed that the cultural identity of the Tai Saek people, which continues to be presented both within and outside the community, comprises six dimensions: language, the Kin Tet Den ritual, traditional costume, songs and music, Miang Ta Suat (a local culinary delicacy), and the Saek Ten Sak (bamboo dance) performance. The presentation of this identity is exhibited through three main channels: daily ways of life and rituals, government-supported activities, and the utilization of modern media.
Furthermore, the findings reflected the dynamism of cultural identity within a contemporary social context. Although the community has adapted to social and economic changes, it continues to place high importance on preserving and transmitting the core of Tai Saek culture, which serves as the essential foundation of the community's identity.
