Best Practices for Recruiting Student Assistants Using the Modern Management Process (POLC): A Case Study of the Learning Resources and Educational Media Centre, Mae Fah Luang University

Abstract

        Mae Fah Luang University has implemented a student employment policy to broaden educational opportunities, enhance professional experience, and encourage productive extracurricular engagement. In alignment with this policy, the Learning Resources and Educational Media Centre initiated the Library Student Assistant Project. This project aims to develop best practices for student assistant management and to strengthen the learning skills of students, specifically through their participation in promoting board games, Virtual Reality (VR) services, and related library activities. Utilising the POLC (Planning, Organizing, Leading, and Controlling) management framework as an operational tool, the study found that staff satisfaction with these modern management practices was at the highest level, with a mean score of 4.68. Furthermore, participating students demonstrated significant improvement in Soft Skills, particularly in coordination and collaboration, which accounted for 18.18% of the skill development areas. Regarding service impact, the usage statistics for board games and VR services in Fiscal Year 2025 increased by 68.25% compared to the previous year. Consequently, this project has established effective guidelines for student recruitment and engagement, leading to more efficient and value-driven promotion of the Learning Resources and Educational Media Centre.
