Abstract

This study aimed to 1) examine the level of needs for the development of information technology skills, and 2) compare the levels of needs for the development of information technology skills among educational personnel in the areas of computer skills, communication systems, and network technology.The sample used in the study consisted of 354 educational personnel, determined according to the sample size table of Krejcie and Morgan. The research instrument was a rating-scale questionnaire constructed by the researcher, which had a content validity index (IOC) ranging from 0.60 to 1.00, and the overall reliability coefficient was 0.99. The statistics used for data analysis included percentage, mean, standard deviation, F-test, and pairwise comparison using Scheffé’s method.

The results of the study revealed that 1) The overall need for the development of information technology skills of educational personnel in the Office of Technology for Teaching and Learning under the Office of the Basic Education Commission was at a moderate level. When considering each aspect in descending order of mean scores, the highest was computer skills, followed by communication systems, and the lowest was network technology. The overall comparison of needs for information technology skill development showed no significant difference 2) When comparing each aspect individually, it was found that the educational personnel had significantly different levels of computer skills at the .05 level, and this difference occurred in computer skills only.
