A Causal Model of Factors Influencing Cooperatives Employees’ Commitment with Agricultural Cooperatives in Bangkok Metropolitan Area

Abstract

This research was a correlational descriptive research, and the objective was to study a causal model of cooperatives managers’ leadership factor and cooperatives citizenship behavior factor influencing cooperatives employees’ commitment to agricultural cooperatives in Bangkok Metropolitan. The research methodology included two - stage questionnaire development. First, the research tool construction which was the structural interview and was used with 10 experts from agricultural cooperatives. Second, obtaining knowledge from the structural interview and was then used to develop the research questionnaires. Samples of the research consisted of 231 employees, from various position in agricultural cooperatives. Structural Equation Modeling was employed to assess the fitness of the model, and investigation for parsimonious model to explain the effect between cooperatives managers’ leadership and cooperatives citizenship behavior factors with cooperatives employees’ commitment to agricultural cooperatives in Bangkok Metropolitan. Research findings showed that the cooperatives managers’ leadership and cooperatives citizenship behavior were related directly to the cooperatives employees’ commitment to agricultural cooperatives in Bangkok Metropolitan. The significant findings are leadership of cooperatives manager in transformational leadership style had direct effect to the cooperatives employees’ commitment at a rather low level (r = .24), and inspirational motivation factor was the best of transformational leadership (r = .92). Moreover the cooperatives citizenship behavior related was at a middle level (r = .57), and courtesy factor was the best at (r = .67). The later finding reflected the unique culture of agricultural cooperatives and context of Thai culture that brotherhood, neighborhood, and friendship are important in working behavior, because the normative commitment factor was the best of cooperatives commitment (r = .56). The researcher recommends that in order to develop agricultural cooperatives, cooperative leaders should build commitment among staff which are related to people and companies, and train them to operate under regulation oriented.
