The participation of faculty staff in acquiring online databases of Ramkhamhaeng University Library

Abstract

This research has an objective to study online database use, online database using issues and participation demand of lecturers for online database providing. The sample size for this research includes Ramkhamhaeng University’s lecturers from 13 faculties who have used Ramkhamhaeng University library’s online database service by purposive sampling. Researcher received 126 replies. The research instrument is questionnaires. The statistics for this research include percentage, average and standard deviation. Moreover, the author has collected and analyzed data from 12 interview forms. The research result has indicated that the majority of Ramkhamhaeng University’s lecturers are female. Most of them are social science lecturers who lectured in bachelor degree’s section with 1-5 years experience. They mostly know about the library online database service from the website and then from the library’s public relation, respectively. The mostly used online database is Thai e-book database and SpringerLink - Journal database. For online database using issues, the overall is in the moderate level. The issue which is in the high level with highest average is that database issue. It has found that online databases have less or no full version documents. While, the service provider issue and network issue are in the moderate level; and the service user issue is in the low level. For the participation demand of lecturers for online database providing, the overall is in the moderate level. The high level of participating demand of lecturers is that online database using training. The working process in the moderate level is the participation of online database using assessment. The in-depth interview with Ramkhamhaeng University’s lecturers has found that they want to use and offer to determine online databases in humanity science and social science and increasingly in science and technology. Most of them lack skill and knowledge about online database use. For the service provider, they lack public relations about information sources of academic works and research. They also need an introduction for the new online database or online database informing the lecturer group to provide consideration advice and consult. For the network, they mainly have problems about the university internal network and external network connection. Lastly, the lecturers want to participate in database using assessment and they also offer to arrange online database using training.
