Library Support of Learning with Audiobooks for a Visually Impaired Person in the Community

Abstract

This project aimed to produce audiobooks to support learning for visually impaired people in the community and to evaluate their satisfaction with the audiobooks and library-organized learning promotion activities. The tools used included: a satisfaction questionnaire for volunteers regarding audiobook production, a satisfaction questionnaire for visually impaired students on the audiobooks and library activities, and four audiobooks. The study population consisted of 34 visually impaired students from Grades 1–6 at the Khon Kaen School for the Blind and six volunteers. The results indicated that the volunteers gained knowledge and understanding about audiobooks and were able to produce audiobooks that met the required standards. The satisfaction analysis of visually impaired students with the audiobooks and activities showed the highest levels of satisfaction across the following aspects: 1) Content: 90% of students reported benefiting from the audiobooks. 90% enjoyed the audiobook reading activities organized by the Khon Kaen University Library. 2) Media Quality: 92% agreed that the audiobooks met DAISY production standards. 86% appreciated the clarity of voice, proper intonation, and accuracy of the reading. 3) Usability: 92% of students expressed satisfaction with the audiobook-based learning promotional activities. 90% found the audiobook content to provide moral lessons and practical guidance for daily life. 88% agreed that the audiobooks supported learning outside the classroom and served as supplementary reading materials.
