Developing Library Staff towards Knowledge Connector Roles through Community Radio in the Digital Age

Abstract

   This research aims to develop 21^st century skills for library staff to transition into the "Knowledge Connector" role and to expand channels for knowledge dissemination. The study employed a mixed-methods (qualitative and quantitative) approach, utilizing Gap Analysis and the 3R8C skills framework. The target group consisted of three library staff members serving as radio program hosts and a survey of needs from 35 listeners.
     The results indicate that 117 episodes of the KKUL Radio program were successfully produced across four categories: Academic Skills, Life Skills, 21^st Century Skills, and GMS Wisdom. Among these, the 21^st Century Skills category had the lowest output. Notably, the implementation of Generative AI reduced the production timeline from 2-3 days down to just 1 day.
     In terms of skill development, creativity was identified as the skill with the highest demand (mean score of 4.66); however, only one person was developed in this area, representing 33.33%. Conversely, skills for AI and voice usage were fully developed for all 3 participants (100%). Additionally, the library expanded its knowledge reach through the FM 103 MHz frequency and an online database, effectively meeting listener interests in general knowledge (75.40%), self-development (52.20%), and health and psychology (43.5%)
