Information Literacy of Undergraduate Students Faculty of Liberal Arts Mahidol University

Abstract

This research aimed to: 1) study the level of information literacy among undergraduate students at the Faculty of Liberal Arts, Mahidol University, and 2) compare their information literacy levels categorized by major, academic year, and experience with information literacy-related courses/training. The sample consisted of 264 undergraduate students from the Faculty of Liberal Arts, Mahidol University, across academic years 1 to 4, in the academic year 2023.  The research findings revealed that: 1) The overall information literacy level of the students was moderate. When considering individual aspects, students demonstrated a high level of information literacy in defining the nature and scope of information and in using information ethically and legally. 2) Comparisons of information literacy based on major, academic year, and experience with information literacy-related courses/training showed that: 2.1) There was no significant difference in information literacy when categorized by major. 2.2) When categorized by academic year, there were statistically significant differences in overall and individual aspects of information literacy at the .05 level. 2.3) When categorized by experience, there were also statistically significant differences in overall and individual aspects of information literacy at the .05 level. The results of this research can serve as a guideline for developing library services to promote information literacy skills among students.
