Social Studies Learning Management for Developing Public-Spirit of Grade 7 Students at Pali Triam Udom Suksa School, Wat Photharam, Nakhon Sawan Province

Abstract

This research aimed to: (1) implement social studies learning to develop public-mindedness among Grade 7 students at Pali Triam Udom Suksa School, Wat Photharam, Nakhon Sawan Province, and (2) evaluate the effectiveness of this learning in fostering public-mindedness. The study was conducted using an action research approach. The population consisted of 12 Grade 7 students during the first semester of the 2024 academic year. The research instruments included: (1) a public-mindedness assessment form, and (2) a public-mindedness development program comprising 12 activities. Each activity included questions and worksheets to assess students’ knowledge and understanding. The findings revealed that: (1) integrating public-mindedness into social studies learning enabled students to become aware of and understand its principles and concepts for practical application in daily life. Videos were used to present content through the 12-activity program, which included: (1) Around Me, (2) This Problem, Exactly!, (3) Caring Together, (4) Commitment to Duty, (5) My Rights and Yours, (6) Volunteer Spirit, (7) Lessons Learned, (8) Aligned Values, (9) Heartfelt Promise, (10) Passing on Love, (11) Mission of Love and Service, and (12) Continuing Goodness; and (2) after participating in the program, students demonstrated increased knowledge and understanding of public-mindedness and were able to apply its principles effectively in their daily lives.
