Abstract

This article aimed to examine place-based partnerships in the development of the grassroots economy between universities and local communities. Academic service to society was regarded as an essential mission of universities in local development, which sought to achieve collaborative progress through university–community networks toward sustainability in the form of “place-based partnerships.” Academic knowledge was employed to drive joint actions, reflecting the participation of stakeholders working together as mechanisms for resource management within the area. These partnerships engaged in collaborative efforts, with each partner assuming specific roles that were interconnected toward a common goal. The integration of cooperative work among all sectors contributed to the development of the grassroots economy in local communities, ultimately leading to sustainability.
