THE PRINCIPLE OF SANGAHAVATTHU FOUR (FOUR BASES OF SOCIAL SOLIDARITY) AND THE CREATION OF A COMPASSIONATE SOCIETY: REDUCING SOCIAL INEQUALITY IN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS

Abstract

This academic article aims to explore the application of the Four Social Principles (Sangahavatthu 4) comprising generosity, kind speech, beneficial conduct, and equality in fostering a caring and inclusive community within educational settings. The focus is on reducing social inequalities and promoting positive relationships among staff and students. Findings indicate that integrating these principles encourages compassionate behaviors, mutual respect, and trust, which in turn help ensure equal access to resources and opportunities for all students. As a result, schools become nurturing environments that support social harmony and sustainable development. This study highlights the potential of the Four Social Principles as a moral framework that complements educational policies aimed at achieving equity and inclusion in today’s learning environments.
