Abstract

Phra Brahmagunabhorn (P.A. Payutto) is a distinguished Buddhist scholar, thinker, and prolific writer of modern Buddhist works. He has produced a vast body of academic contributions in the field of Buddhism and has been highly acclaimed both in Thailand and abroad. His works have earned him numerous awards and honorary doctoral degrees from various institutions domestically and internationally.

The book “The Sangha Institution and Contemporary Society” originated from lectures, writings, and explanatory notes delivered in 1974 (B.E. 2517), in the aftermath of the October 14, 1973 events in Thailand. The author compiled and systematized his essays, articles, and lectures into thematic sections, presenting issues concerning the Sangha institution, analyzing those issues, and proposing solutions to a variety of problems faced by the monastic community. The book concludes with a question-and-answer section addressing the stability and ideals of the Sangha institution.
