INTEGRATION OF COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY BASED ON BUDDHIST PRINCIPLES AND WESTERN PSYCHOLOGY

Abstract

This academic article aims to study the integration of counseling psychology based on Buddhist principles and Western psychology. From the study, it was found that the integrated counseling approach using Buddhist principles combined with Western psychology consists of 9 steps: 1.Building rapport skills 2. Questioning skills 3. Listening skills 4. Story tracking 5. Reflecting feelings 6. Summarizing stories and key points 7. Providing information and advice 8. Highlighting potential consequences 9. Offering encouragement. This integrated counseling approach is applied both in individual and group settings. It was found that both formats share the same objectives, which are divided into two dimensions: 1) Personal growth: This dimension expands the worldview of clients, fostering a broader perspective and a correct understanding of the world and life in alignment with the natural principles outlined in Buddhist teachings. 2) Problem solving: This dimension addresses unresolved issues in the clients' minds, helping them develop a correct understanding of their problems and enabling them to manage these issues appropriately and realistically, in harmony with the nature of the world and life.
