ฺBuddhabhumi Suwannabhumi : What's The Buddha's teaching?
Abstract
This book provides the reviewer with insights about the golden umbrella (chatra), 4.49 meters tall, installed atop the Mahabodhi Stupa in Bodh Gaya, India. It was crafted by the Thai people and ceremonially offered on November 16, 2013, a day of great auspiciousness and faith. The golden glow from the umbrella represents a unification of devotion from the key pillars of the Thai nation—its monarchy, religion, and people. This effort symbolizes not only the preservation and promotion of Buddhism but also a commitment to peace and harmony in the country.
The golden plaque at the pinnacle of the Mahabodhi Stupa, inscribed in both Thai and English, commemorates the historical significance. It mentions the offering being made under the patronage of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, and His Holiness the Supreme Patriarch Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara, with the collaboration of the Thai people. A total of 289 kilograms of pure gold was used to create this umbrella as an act of devotion to honor the Buddha and his enlightenment. King Bhumibol Adulyadej is noted as the fourth monarch in world history to contribute to the restoration of the Mahabodhi Stupa, following Emperor Ashoka, King Huviska, and King Mindon.
The inscription prays for this supreme act of faith to bring enduring prosperity to Thailand through Buddhism, fostering unity, peace, and well-being among Thai people for eternity.
