The Study of Glue Properties Used in Archival Resources Conservation Work of Maejo University

Abstract

The conservation of information resources in the field of archival is to maintain the important archival documents which use the delicacy of procedures. Due to the various causes of the deterioration, the best way to maintain the documents is to being durable: moreover, it has to be done as same as the original manuscript. The Conservation of Information Resources Maejo University has used a starch paste which is afforded from locals. But in the foreign countries usually use wheat flour. therefore, the researcher wondered the quality and how different each starch was. And find out that which is the most suitable for archival conservation work. The purposes of this study were to identify the quality of 3 kinds of glue which are rice flour, wheat flour and Glutinous flour to study the properties of preserving the archival documents in Maejo University whether there are different or the same. The study found that the Glutinous rice flour 50 g., 300 ml. of water, the stewing time is 7 minutes, the result is good. It is the most suitable for archival conservation work. Because the glue texture can well coat the documents, not clumping and easy to peel off. Covering Washi is able to clearly read the text and it can be easily washed off.
