THE DESIRABLE CHARACTERISTICS OF FOOTBALL COACHES AS PERCEIVED BY FOOTBALL PLAYERS AT NAWAMINTHRACHINUTHIT SUANKULARB WITTAYALAI PATHUMTHANI SCHOOL

Abstract

          The objectives of this research were: 1) to examine the desirable characteristics of football coaches as perceived by football players at Nawaminthrachinuthit Suankularb Wittayalai Pathumthani School, and 2) to investigate the problems and obstacles regarding these characteristics. The sample group consisted of 91 football players from the a Nawaminthrachinuthit Suankularb Wittayalai Pathumthani School. This quantitative study utilized questionnaires for data collection. Descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean ( ) and standard deviation (S.D.), were employed for data analysis.

          The research findings revealed that:

1. The majority of the respondents are male, over 15 years of age, with more than 5 years of football experience. Most occupy the "Midfielder" position and are currently enrolled in Senior High School (Grades 10–12).
2. In overall, the desirable characteristics were rated at the highest level ( = 4.21, S.D. = .175$). When considering individual dimensions, all areas were rated at a high level. Ranked in descending order of mean scores, the results were as follows:

2.1 Psychology: Rated at the highest level (  = 4.84, S.D. = .250).

2.2 Leadership: Rated at the highest level (  = 4.83, S.D. = .250).

2.3 Experience: Rated at the highest level (   = 4.50, S.D. = .433).

2.4 Knowledge and Competency: Rated at a high level (  = 3.67, S.D. = .395).

2.5 Coaching Skills: Rated at a moderate level (  = 3.20, S.D. =.514).

1. Problems and Obstacles of the primary issues identified include coaches' failure to effectively transfer diverse skills to the athletes and a lack of continuous pursuit of new knowledge to develop athlete performance. Additionally, there is insufficient motivation provided to the athletes, failing to stimulate their confidence during competitions.
